Ohm V
Decode Resistor Bands Fast
Ohm V makes it quick and easy to decode the colored bands with its simple “touch the buttons” Colors Keypad for resistor decoding. Just touch the colored buttons on the Colors Keypad matching the bands found on the resistor body. You can enter just the most important bands; or, you can add the optional bands that may be found on some resistors. Ohm V will follow along, displaying confirmation of bands as you enter them, and displaying the interpretation of the bands as electrical properties.
This End Up?
For components with six bands, it can sometimes be unclear which end actually has the “first” band. Ohm V makes it easy to compare interpretations that start at either end of the component. Just touch the REV button to reverse the order of the bands to help you quickly and accurately check if the other interpretation makes more sense for a given resistor. Touch once more to go back to the previous band order.
Find Resistors Quickly and Flexibly
Want to determine what a resistor might look like based on the desired electrical properties? Ohm V makes that task quick and easy, too!
Decide what you would like as an “ideal resistance”; then, use the Values Keypad to enter it just as you would if you were pressing the buttons on an ordinary calculator. Ohm V will use your ideal resistance to help you select a standard value resistor within your favorite Standard E Series of Preferred Values. Ohm V supports finding resistors with either two or three significant digits, and has flexible choices for selecting an E Series from which you can chose a specific resistor.
You can select values for optional bands for Tolerance, Temperature Coefficient, and Reliability, too.
When you have chosen your resistor’s values, Ohm V will display the bands that would encode those values, together with a textual description of the resistor that confirms your entries.
Flexible Fives
For resistors with five bands, Ohm V can help distinguish between several different types of resistor components that use the fifth band to encode Tolerance, Reliability, or Temperature Coefficient.
When entering bands, you can easily adjust the way the bands are displayed to match the marks on the component. When you are specifying values, you can instruct Ohm V as to what kind of value the fifth band represents. You can also use this feature to help demystify the more difficult to decipher components.
It Speaks!
When Ohm V has decoded or encoded a resistor, it can speak the colors of the bands and the textual description of the resistor with a single touch of the SAY button , as you sort through your available components, or copy down the relevant values.
